Pesticide Commercial Dispenser Practice Test

Drift retardants are specifically formulated to reduce spray drift during pesticide application. These adjuvants work by modifying the physical properties of the spray mixture, increasing the size of the spray droplets. This leads to heavier drops that are less likely to be carried away by wind, thus minimizing off-target movement. By effectively holding the spray in the target area, they help ensure that the pesticide is applied where it is intended, improving efficacy and reducing potential environmental impact.

While other adjuvants like spreaders can enhance the coverage and adhesion of the pesticide on surfaces, and buffers can maintain the correct pH of a pesticide solution, they do not specifically target the issue of drift reduction. Surfactants improve the wetting and spreading of the product on the plant surface, but again, they do not play a direct role in minimizing drift during the application process.
